Jacoby Ford Gets AFC Player of Week Award

Despite multiple electrifying kickoff returns for touchdowns this season, Oakland Raiders return man Jacoby Ford did not get selected to the AFC Pro Bowl squad. But if it’s any consolation, Raiders.com has announced Ford was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 16.

Ford had a 99-yard opening kickoff return for a touchdown, while the game was still winnable, in Sunday’s 31-26 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. It was Ford’s third touchdown on a kickoff return this season.

Ford also dashes into history book status. Sort of.

Two of his touchdown returns this season were on opening kickoffs. ProFootballTalk.com reports that this ties Ford with Ike Thomas of the 1971 Dallas Cowboys for most opening kickoff returns for touchdowns in a single season. With two.

Ford was a draft steal, as a rookie fourth-round pick for the Raiders this season.
