49ers' Break Silence on GM Drama

In a conference call Monday afternoon, San Francisco 49ers president and all-around owner's-eldest-kid Jed York confirmed what the whole world has already known for the last four days. Scot McCloughan is officially out as 49ers' general manager.

What York would not say is the one thing that everyone doesn't already know -- Why?

"Scot McCloughan is no longer the general manager of the 49ers," York said, in remarks transcribed by the San Jose Mercury News. "It's a private personnel matter. I'm not going to get into details of a private personnel matter."

Sounds like a lawsuit could be in the works.

This is somewhat disastrous timing here for the 49ers, what with the NFL Draft in less than one month. But York said that 49ers' draft board was "90-95 percent set."

Gossips and snoops such as myself will note with interest that McCloughan told Sirius NFL Radio, "Family needs to come first, and I lost sight of that with my position at the 49ers." And also that ESPN reports that public records show McLoughan has a divorce pending.
