Police in the west Phoenix suburb of Glendale say a man was shot in the head during a fight in a parking lot near the Arizona Cardinals' stadium.

The Arizona Republic reports that the shooting happened during a game between the Cardinals and the Oakland Raiders.

Glendale police spokeswoman Tracey Breeden says the wounded man suffered life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

Glendale detectives said Saturday that the "incident appears to be fan based."

Police said someone called 911 and said thay he had accidentally shot another man in the parking lot. Police said the caller, and apparent shooter, stayed at the scene and waited for help to arrive.

Police took that man into custody, but later released him.
