Manny Ramirez Says He'll Join the A's: ESPN

Outfielder will serve 50-game suspension before playing.

Manny Ramirez has told ESPN that he's agreed to a deal with the Oakland Athletics.

Ramirez will have to serve a 50-game suspension for violating MLB's drug policy for a second time. So he'll turn 40 (May 30) before he can take the field for the first time with the A's (June 2).

A big bat could come in handy for the Athletics, who have traded three of their pitchers this off-season, two of them starters.

It'll be Ramirez's 20th major league season, having gone 1-for-17 last year in five games with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The mercurial Ramirez tested positive for a substance that is associated with cycling down from an anabolic steroid program.
