The ultimate surfing contest - the Mavericks Invitational - kicked off with near perfect weather conditions on Friday, with 24 of the world's top surfers riding the waves off Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay.
Since the waves can get so dangerous, the public was limited to watching the competition from a nearby hotel or bar, or online, streaming on the Maverick's website and from a helicopter on NBC Bay Area.
Lots of people were clicking in to see the glorious and sunny skies.
As Mitch Hoffman, who tweets under the handle @bagheera_13, put it: "Mavericks Invitational is frickin sick."
