The San Francisco Giants played host to a NASCAR star Tuesday.
NASCAR’s Kasey Kahne, the defending champ of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, dropped into AT&T Park for a session in the indoor batting cage with Giants outfielder Aaron Rowand.
This is just part of a whirlwind of activity centering around Kahne. He’s is in the final year of a contract with Richard Petty Motorsports and there is speculation he could soon join defending Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, Vallejo’s Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. with Hendrick Motorsports in 2011.
As for his day at the ballpark, Kahne and Rowand both raced remote controlled cars around the infield and played some catch before hitting in the cage. Rowand said Kahne was a natural and one of the better non-baseball playing athletes he’s seen to drop in for a batting cage session.
Kahne, who grew up outside Seattle, said he and his dad were Mariners fans and one of his favorite players was Ken Griffey, Jr. The next running of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 race is set for June 20 during Father’s Day weekend.
