LeBron James is keeping track of all critics of his move to Miami, but there's one right under his nose: his girlfriend.
"Don't think for one min that I haven't been keeping mental notes of everyone taking shots at me this summer. And I mean everyone!" he wrote on his Twitter account.
But just as his warning came out, so did an interview with his longtime girlfriend and mother of his two boys, Savannah Brinson. She told Harper's Bazaar South Beach is a nice vacation spot but not the best place to take one's talents.
"Personally, Miami was not my favorite place," Brinson told the magazine. "Vacationing there is great. You go for three days and get some sun and it's time to go home.
Outside of Miami, James has seen his popularity sink like a net-stripping three-pointer of late. First, a made-for-TV special announcing his decision to bolt his home state of Ohio to join buddies Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to play for the Miami Heat struck many fans and commentators as tone deaf. That was followed by the inadvertent release and quick retraction of a less than flattering ESPN article detailing the player's party habits during a recent weekend in Las Vegas.
And while moving to Miami makes him a good bet to win an NBA title or two, the decision has since been questioned by everyone from Jay-Z to Michael Jordan.
While it appears that no slight has escaped the King's watchful eye, according to Fanhouse.com, he ought to worry about Brinson and sons LeBron Jr., 5, and Bryce, 3. James, who also spoke to Harper's for the Aug. 17 edition, said Brinson will be there for him, even if it's Miami.
"A person like myself always needs a great sidekick and a person you can rely on no matter the circumstances. And she's that," James told Harper's. "She's got my back, and I love her for that."
Anyway, love for her man and the prospect of perpetual sunshine seems to have brought Brinson around.
"When they told me it doesn't get any colder than 50 degrees, that sold me," she said. "We get below-zero weather in Cleveland. ... I can't wait to have a sunny Christmas."
"It will definitely be an adjustment, but we'll make it. We're not complaining," she says.
"Whatever LeBron felt was comfortable, I'm with him," she continues. "I just love him so much. We're soul mates."
