London Mayor Boris Johnson Gets Stuck on Zip Line

"Unlike Team GB, he won't be bagging any gold medals today but he remains unbowed," his office says

An elated London Mayor Boris Johnson took a zip line after Great Britain notched its first gold medal — and delivered his own memorable Olympic performance.

London’s colorful mayor got stuck while riding the zip line in Victoria Park, near Olympic park in east London. He was seen dangling 20 feet in the air while clutching two union flags.

"Get me a rope, get me a ladder," ITV quoted him as saying. "I think the brakes got stuck.”

Johnson was suspended in the air for about five minutes before his staff used a rope to tow him to safety, the Daily Telegraph reported.

A statement from the mayor’s office to The Associated Press cheekily noted that Johnson, “survived his first zip wire experience.”

"Unlike Team GB, he won't be bagging any gold medals today but he remains unbowed," his office said.
