Olympic Viewing Guide: Gabby Douglas Seeks More Gold

The world’s attention will turn back to Gabby "The Flying Squirrel" Douglas Monday, when the newly crowned all-around champion competes for gold in the uneven bars.

The world’s attention turns back to Gabby "The Flying Squirrel" Douglas Monday, when the newly crowned all-around champion competes for another individual gold medal, this time in the uneven bars.

Her biggest rivals are Russians Victoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina. Though Douglas defeated them in the all-around, she finished behind them in the uneven bars. The event begins at 9:50 a.m. ET and will be streamed live on NBCOlympics.com, and be shown as part of NBC's primetime coverage at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

In men’s gymnastics, Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti of Brazil won Olympic gold medal in men's still rings. Chen Yibing of China, a 2008 gold medalist, took silver. The men's vault final will feature Samuel Mikulak of the United States, who finished fourth in the qualifier. The favorite is Denis Ablyazin of Russia.

The U.S. women’s soccer team continues its quest for a third straight Olympic championship on Monday. Undefeated in the preliminary round, the Americans beat New Zealand 2-0 in the first game of the knockout round, and on Monday will face Canada in the semifinals. American goalkeeper Hope Solo will tell you that contrary to criticisms from TV commentator Brandi Chastain, the U.S. team has been dominant, and should be the favorite.

But the Canadians have been playing very well, too. Led by Melissa Tancredi and Christine Sinclair, who've combined to score seven goals thus far, Canada has posted a record of 4-0, while outscoring their opponents eight goals to four.

The game will be live streamed on NBCOlympics.com and airs on the NBC Sports Network beginning at 2:45 p.m. ET.

Having squeaked past a clearly inferior Lithuanian team, the U.S. men’s basketball team faces Argentina in the final game of the preliminary round Monday. Argentina enters the game with a 4-1 record, behind Manu Ginobli of the San Antonio Spurs. Both teams are all but certain of a place in the knockout round, but the Americans would be wise to take this one seriously--after the scare they got from Lithuania, it's time to quit goofing around.

That game will live streamed on NBCOlympics.com and airing on the NBC Sports Network beginning at 5:15 p.m. ET.

Meanwhile, over at Olympic Stadium, Lolo Jones, who famously flubbed a sure shot at gold in the 100m hurdles in 2008, begins her quest to redeem herself. Jones came in first in her 100m qualifying heat Monday morning with a time of 12:68. But the big news in that heat was Jamaica's Brigitte Foster-Hylton failing to qualify after a devasting stumble over a hurdle that got her off rhythm, finishing the heat in tears. The woman who won gold in the 2008 race, Dawn Harper, also qualified Monday morning and is a favorite to defend her title. Australia's Sally Pearson came in first overall in the 100m heats.

Men will be chasing gold in the 400m hurdles, in which three of top six qualifiers are American. This is probably America's best chance to sweep an event. The final is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. ET.
Medals will also be awarded in the women's pole vault, shot put and 3000m steeplechase.

Elsewhere at the Olympics on Monday:

• In the Aquatic Centre, four-time Olympian Troy Dumais and his American teammate Chris Colwell will compete in the men’s 3m springboard diving. First rounds begin at 2 p.m. ET

• Another athlete known as a “flying squirrel,” American wrestler Ellis Coleman, will compete in the 132-pound Greco Roman division. In the 184 point weight class, American Chas Betts will compete.
