Raiders' McFadden Ranked No. 2 in the NFL

Surprise, surprise -- "bust" McFadden near top of NFL in yardage.

You can see it with your own two eyes, Oakland Raiders fans. That breakout season that running back Darren McFadden was supposed to have in each of the last three seasons is finally coming to pass.

McFadden comes into Week 3 ranked as the No. 2 running back in the entire NFL, with 240 yards rushing this season. He is ranked ahead of both the Vikings' Adrian Peterson and the Titans' Chris Johnson.

Think some people who had the No. 1 overall pick in their fantasy football draft would like to have a do-over?

There's an even bigger surprise at the No. 1 position, as right now the top running back in the NFL is the Houston Texans' Arian Foster. Foster is an undrafted second-year player who spent most of last season on the Texans' practice squad.

Certainly these rankings are going to change as the weeks go on, and these numbers are based on only two games.

But McFadden's individual numbers have to encourage the team that drafted him No. 4 overall in 2008. That was his best season as a Raider, and he accumulated 499 yards rushing.

This year, he's almost halfway there after only two games.

Joe Kukura is a freelance writer spending his afternoon voting and re-voting for Darren McFadden as FedEx Ground Player of the Week as if the award meant something.
