Age is only a number.  The Sharks  -- and the soon-to-be 40 year-old Rob Blake -- have agreed to a new contract.

NBC Bay Area has confirmed that the veteran defenseman will return to San Jose for the 2009-2010 season.

"The new contract has been finalized, but yet to be signed,"  according to a team source.

Blake was a valuable addition to the Sharks last season -- helping lead the team to the Presidents' Trophy with 10 goals and 45 points.  Despite the Sharks first round playoff exit and promises to re-shape the roster, Blake was invited back for his 21st NHL season.

Blake agreed to a 1-year contract worth more than $3M.

The Sharks are expected to announce the deal on Wednesday.
