SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson will be in Phoenix this weekend to judge a slam dunk contest during NBA All-Star Weekend.

Saturday's contest at US Airways Arena will showcase some of the NBA's best athletes and their gravity-defying creativity.

"Although none of the Kings were selected to the All-Star team this year, I will be proud to represent our city," Johnson said in a prepared statement. "This is a great honor for me and for Sacramento."

Johnson is a three-time NBA All-Star, five-time all-NBA selection and holds many records from his days with the Phoenix Suns.

Johnson will also be recognized by NBA Retired Players Association as the Legend of the Year.

Julius "Dr. J" Erving will also make the presentation to Johnson for his contributions on and off the basketball court.
