Ryan Sadowski had to wait until he was 26 years old to make his major league debut, but it was definitely worth the wait.
Sadowski pitched six innings of shutout ball, allowing just four hits, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-0.
Sadowski, who was replacing Jonathan Sanchez in the rotation, went 5-2 with a 4.11 ERA in Triple-A Fresno this season.
The Giants offense helped their rookie starter out, scoring seven runs on thirteen hits, highlighted by Matt Downs' first career home run in the sixth inning and a Nate Schierholtz solo home run in the ninth.
With the win, the Giants leapfrogged the Brewers in the NL Wild Card standings. They also moved back within seven games of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.
San Francisco's seven-game road trip continues Monday night in St. Louis against the Cardinals when Tim Lincecum takes the hill against Brad Thompson.
