The D-Train is Coming Home

Willis expected to join the Fresno Grizzlies Monday

In a deal announced Thursday, former Rookie of the Year Dontrell Willis has signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants.

As reported by the San Jose Mercury News, Willis will report to Fresno on Monday.

Willis, a Bay Area native, had offers from a number of clubs but decided to join a team close to home.

Willis grew up in Oakland.  He went to high school at Encinal High in Alameda.

For those who are just catching on to this story, Willis is a lefty pitcher with a unorthodox delivery who's career has taken a downward spiral since being acquired by the Detroit Tigers form the Florida Marlins in 2007.  Now he tries to revive his career  with a team he grew up rooting for.
