The Onion Laughs it Up at 49ers' Expense

Humor site can't resist taking shots at hapless team.

How bad is the San Francisco 49ers' division, the NFC West, wherein only one team just barely has a winning record going into Week 10?

It's so bad that when The Onion compares it to a natural disaster, all you can do is nod knowingly and laugh that they sort of have a point.

In a funny satirical article entitled "NFL Sends Thousands Of Volunteers To Help Clean Up NFC West", The Onion mocks the collective ineptitude of the 49ers, Rams, Seahawks and Cardinals by comparing their division to an emergency disaster zone requring a federal relief effort.

"The NFL deployed thousands of volunteers Wednesday along with $4.6 million in football supplies to assist in the dilapidated NFC West's rebuilding effort," The Onion reports in jest.

"This division is a total disaster,' said Fred Hudson, co-leader of the NFC West Response Team," the piece cotinues.

The hometown San Francisco 49ers get ragged on in particular, along with a dig at a local hero.

"At press time," the piece concludes, "Actor Sean Penn had arrived in the devastated area and was helping the wide receivers of the San Francisco 49ers with their route running."
