Traffic Is Big Issue in Report on Proposed Warriors San Francisco Arena

The environmental impact report is out on the proposed Golden State Warriors arena in San Francisco, and as expected, traffic is the big issue.

Opponents say the 18,000-seat arena will crowd out bio-tech and make it harder for staff and patients going to UCSF hospitals. City staffers say they’ve got those issues under control.

People who live and work in Mission Bay say a full house at the Warriors proposed arena, coupled with a sold-out San Francisco Giants game, would be a real traffic problem.

But at Friday’s unveiling of the draft environmental impact report, city department heads say they’ve got a plan, to route traffic to the Warriors and the Giants on separate streets from UCSF’s medical facilities, put parking lots on port property south of Mission Bay, and double the trains on the T Third Street line connecting to the Central Subway.

A public relations specialist for the arena opposition group says the city isn’t being honest about its positive outlook.
