Vernon Davis Explains Crabtree Fight

Nosy reporters and busybodies are still trying to get to the bottom of the Vernon Davis-Michael Crabtree shouting match that disrupted San Francisco 49ers practice Wednesday. Some details of a long-simmering feud have emerged.

Vernon Davis even went on record after Thursday night's win over the Chargers and spoke at length about the incident. Of course, he disclosed nothing that helped anyone figure out anything.

" I hope (Crabtree) got the message. I think he did," Davis told the San Jose Mercury News. "If anything that I see that I feel is wrong and needs to be addressed, I’m going to say something."

When asked the cause of the fight, Davis said "There were some things he was doing at the time that I didn’t like. That’s all. And I just got on it."

Come on, Vernon! What are these "things"?

"I can’t really get into all that," Davis said. "It was just something he did. I don’t really want to discuss it, but just something he did that really bothered me."

There has been internet speculation that this is all about a girl. Radar Online reported this week that Davis is now romantically involved with Natalie Nunn, who is known for some cheesecake reality show called Bad Girls Club.

The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows shot this rumor down, indicating it's more related to Crabtree's work ethic.

Over at Comcast SportNet Bay Area, Matt Maiocco writes an investigative piece on the situation as he sees it. He says it's been brewing all preseason, but came to a head Wednesday.

"Crabtree was seen playfully going through practice next to Davis, who seemed to grow increasingly agitated," writes Maiocco. "(Crabtree) seems to play by different rules than everyone else."

Actually, this time of year Crabtree doesn't even play at all. He has now sat out eight consecutive preseason games since the 49ers drafted him in 2009.

Joe Kukura is a freelance writer who wonders if Vernon Davis is just edgier since he started dating one of the most hilariously psychotic women on Earth.
