Women's Beach Volleyball: Walsh Jennings, Ross Defeat Aussies

The Australian team has never beaten Walsh Jennings and Ross

The United States team of Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross beat Australians Taliqua Clancy and Louise Bawden on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the women's beach volleyball tournament in Rio.

The Americans won 21-14, 21-16.

Walsh Jennings and Ross move on to the semifinals, where they will face Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas of Brazil on Tuesday.

The American women have never lost to Clancy and Bawden, who beat Poland 15-21, 21-16, 15-11 to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Americans advanced after defeating the Italian team of Marta Menegatti and Laura Giombini.

The Italians led in each set, but the Americans rallied to put them away 21-10, 21-16 in just 35 minutes. That made it an early night — of sorts — for the fans who came out to watch the three-time gold medalist play at midnight.
