Through six innings on Sunday, Giants starter Barry Zito was unhittable...literally.
Zito lost his no-hitter in the seventh inning, when Rangers outfielder Andruw Jones ripped a 2-run home run just inside the left-field foul pole to tie the game 2-2. The Giants picked up their lefty in the bottom of the inning, however, as Randy Winn singled home Aaron Rowand to put the Giants ahead 3-2.
Bob Howry and Brian Wilson protected that lead, and the Giants beat the Rangers 3-2 to complete the three-game sweep.
Zito earned his fourth win of the season, allowing just two runs on two hits and striking out eight in seven innings of work.
With the win, the Giants moved ahead of Milwaukee into the NL Wild Card lead at 37-31.
Part two of the Bay Bridge Series begins Monday when the Giants visit the Oakland A's for a three-game series. Jonathan Sanchez takes the hill for San Francisco against Trevor Cahill at 7:05 PM on NBC Bay Area.
