Zito Officially Benched

The Giants' highest paid player is not on the 25-man roster for the San Francisco Giants National League Division Series.  Bruce Bochy released his official list Thursday morning and it did not include pitcher Barry Zito.

Zito said he expected this news during locker room interviews Wednesday.  He said while he thinks he could contribute in the post-season, he would back up Bochy's decision 100 percent. "It's a team effort to get to this place, but we have to go with the guys now and I feel like I can help this team in the playoffs and I have experience. But I stand behind Boch. He's the skipper. I stand behind his decision," Zito said.

Zito also talked about his appearance at last Saturday's game when he allowed four runs and five hits and walked in a run during a losing battle against the Padres.

Zito earned $18.5 million this season and is in the fourth year of a seven-year $216 million contract.  Zito had a tough year to say the least ending the season with a 9-14 record and a 4.15 ERA.
