49ers Running Back Carlos Hyde Closes in on 1,000-yard Mark

SANTA CLARA – Running back Carlos Hyde is within striking distance of the 1,000-yard club.

Hyde is just 121 yards from hitting the milestone after rushing for a career-high 193 yards, the sixth-biggest day in 49ers history, in the 49ers’ 23-17 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday.

“It’s in reach, but I don’t want to focus on it too much,” Hyde said Thursday. “I'm more focused on winning, whatever I can do to get my team in position to win.”

Hyde will have to continue to work with a shuffled offensive line in front of him.

Veteran Zane Beadles moved to left tackle to replace Joe Staley, who was out with a hamstring injury. Marcus Martin started at left guard, then moved to center after Daniel Kilgore sustained a season-ending hamstring injury. Andrew Tiller took over at left guard.

“I really haven’t made any adjustments at all,” Hyde said. “Marcus is being very vocal this week, which is good. He’s trying to lead the charge and take over that center position.

“It’s kind of easy. They’re on the same page. I communicate with them and see what they see. We all try to communicate so we’re on the same page.”

The 49ers rank fourth in the NFL in rushing yards. The Atlanta Falcons on Sunday figure to focus on containing the 49ers’ running game. The 49ers rank last in the NFL in passing yards. Hyde has certainly gotten the attention of Falcons coach Dan Quinn.

“I watched him and thought he was tough and fast, and then this year between him and (DuJuan) Harris and Shaun (Draughn), I thought their running backs look terrific,” Quinn said.

“And then the offensive line on the combination blocks, I knew it was different from playing Philadelphia last year when Chip (Kelly) was there to playing the Niners now, in terms of a scheme standpoint. It looks different, I’m sure because of how they want to feature the players differently than what they had at Philly.”
