49ers Sign LB Armstrong to Two-year Extension

Linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong appeared in just two games for the 49ers this season, but he made enough of an impression to warrant a new contract.

The 49ers announced on Monday that they have signed Armstrong to a two-year extension through the 2018 season.

Armstrong played in the first two games of the season, but was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 20 due to a chest injury.

In two games, the 25-year-old Armstrong recored seven tackles, one interception and recovered a fumble.

Armstrong came to the 49ers from the Raiders via a waiver claim on Nov. 25, 2016 and played in the final five games of the season.

49ers GM Trent Baalke issued the following statement regarding Armstrong's extension:

β€œRay-Ray had a strong offseason and was off to a good start in 2016 prior to being sidelined for the season due to injury. He has continued to work hard in his rehab and is a young player with a bright future in front of him. We look forward to his continued development and contributions, both on and off the field," Baalke said.

Less than 10 minutes after the 49ers announced the deal, Armstrong reacted on Twitter:
