49ers Sign LB Armstrong to Two-year Extension

Linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong appeared in just two games for the 49ers this season, but he made enough of an impression to warrant a new contract.

The 49ers announced on Monday that they have signed Armstrong to a two-year extension through the 2018 season.

Armstrong played in the first two games of the season, but was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 20 due to a chest injury.

In two games, the 25-year-old Armstrong recored seven tackles, one interception and recovered a fumble.

Armstrong came to the 49ers from the Raiders via a waiver claim on Nov. 25, 2016 and played in the final five games of the season.

“Ray-Ray had a strong offseason and was off to a good start in 2016 prior to being sidelined for the season due to injury. He has continued to work hard in his rehab and is a young player with a bright future in front of him. We look forward to his continued development and contributions, both on and off the field," Baalke said.
