The Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday announced quarterback Carson Palmer will not make the trip to the Bay Area for Thursday’s game against the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium.
Palmer has been ruled out for the game due to a concussion he sustained in the fourth quarter of the Cardinals’ 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Drew Stanton, who has not started a game since the 2014 season, will take Palmer’s spot in the starting lineup.
Stanton has completed just 5 of 15 pass attempts this season for 48 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Stanton will make his 12th career NFL start. He last started for the Cardinals in 2014, when he took over for eight games while Palmer was out with a knee injury.

“He’s done it,” Cardinals coach Bruce Arians told the Bay Area media on Tuesday. “He was 5-3 as our starter when Carson was hurt. I thought he played extremely well. We don’t change anything we do. He’s extremely knowledgeable in the offense. I feel very comfortable with him in there.”
Palmer, 36, who was coming off his best NFL season, has struggled in the first four games. Palmer completed 58.8 percent of his pass attempts with six touchdowns and five interceptions. Last season, Palmer threw 35 touchdown passes with 11 interceptions.
