Ex-49ers Cornerback Hicks Shot and Killed in Calgary

Mylan Hicks, who spent training camp with the 49ers last summer, was shot and killed outside a Calgary, Alberta, nightclub early Sunday morning.

Hicks, 23, was a member of the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. The Stampeders confirmed Hicks' death.

"Obviously this is an extremely difficult and upsetting time for the players and staff," Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel said in a statement. "It's a terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mylan's family."

"The loss of this 23-year-old young man at this stage of his life and his career is an unfathomable tragedy," said Ken King, president and CEO of the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation. "Our sympathies to Mylan's family and to the Stampeders family of players, coaches and staff."

Hicks signed with the 49ers in May 2015 as an undrafted rookie out of Michigan State. He played cornerback, safety and linebacker in college. He played cornerback with the 49ers.

The 49ers waived Hicks on Aug. 31, 2015. He signed with the Stampeders in May.
