Kelly After 12th Straight Loss: ‘I Have Tremendous Confidence' in Baalke

SANTA CLARA – The 49ers’ latest defeat was another crushing blow for a team extended its franchise-worst losing streak to 12 games.

General manager Trent Baalke’s job is clearly in jeopardy, and the 49ers’ 23-17 loss to the New York Jets does nothing for anyone’s job security. And that includes coach Chip Kelly.

On Sunday, CBS Sports reported that it would be a surprise if Baalke keeps his job. The same report stated that Kelly’s job status “is hanging in the balance.”

When asked his comfort with working with Baalke, Kelly said, “I have tremendous confidence in Trent. So I have not heard anything about that.”

CBS reported that former Denver and Washington coach Mike Shanahan could be tabbed for a coaching or front-office position. A source told CSNBayArea.com that the 49ers are not expected to pursue Shanahan to join the organization. The source said CEO Jed York has not decided what course of action to take after the conclusion of the season.
