Patriots Rule Out Gronkowski; 49ers' Lynch Will Not Play

The New England Patriots on Friday ruled out tight end Rob Gronkowski for Sunday’s game against the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium due to a chest injury.

Meanwhile, the 49ers will not have outside linebacker Aaron Lynch for a third consecutive games because of a high ankle sprain.

Wide receiver Torrey Smith, who has never missed a game in his six-year NFL career, is listed as questionable for the 49ers with a shoulder injury. Rookie cornerback Rashard Robinson (knee) is also questionable.

Smith is the 49ers’ third-leading receiver with 17 catches for 243 yards and two touchdowns.

Gronkowski has 25 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns after missing the first two games of the season with a hamstring injury. Wide receiver Chris Hogan (back) will also not be available. Hogan has 19 catches for 391 yards and two touchdowns.

The Patriots’ top two pass-catchers this season are listed as questionable for the game.

Julian Edelman, who has 48 catches for 457 yards and one touchdown, has a foot condition. And Gronkowski’s presumptive replacement, Martellus Bennett, is nursing an ankle injury. Bennett is the Patriots’ second-leading receiver with 38 catches for 504 yards and four touchdowns.
