Report: 49ers Plan to Interview Panthers Exec for GM Job

The 49ers have reportedly requested permission to interview Carolina Panthers assistant general manager Brandon Beane for the team's general manager position.

Beane, 39, becomes the ninth known candidate to replace Trent Baalke, who was fired as 49ers general manager. The 49ers requested permission to interview Beane on the same day the club began making arrangements to interview Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott for the head-coaching job.

FoxSports.com was first to report that Beane is scheduled to interview with the 49ers next week. 49ers executives Jed York and Paraag Marathe are conducting the interviews for fill the positions of general manager and head coach.

Beane was promoted to the position of assistant general manager in June 2015. He spent the previous seven years as Carolina's director of football operations, evaluating professional and collegiate players while working on negotiations of player contracts, as well.

In 2012, Beane served as the Panthers' interim general manager between the tenures of Marty Hurney and Dave Gettleman over the final 10 games of the season.

The 49ers on Thursday announced they were inteviewing Green Bay director of football operations Eliot Wolf. The team also has an interview lined up wtih Packers director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst.
