Defensive lineman Chris Jones not only made his debut with the 49ers against the team that waived him three weeks ago, he was in the starting lineup.
Jones, 26, was claimed off waivers on Nov. 8 after the 49ers placed Arik Armstead (shoulder) on injured reserve. After being inactive for his first two games with the 49ers, Jones was elevated into the starting lineup and played 27 snaps in the 49ers’ 31-24 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.
Jones started in place of Quinton Dial, who sat out the game due to knee and neck injuries. The 49ers announced prior to the game that Tony Jerod-Eddie would start, but Jones was in his place. Jerod-Eddie saw just two snaps on defense. Jones was credited with two tackles.
Originally a sixth-round draft pick of the Houston Texans in 2013, Jones appeared in 28 games with 23 starts for the New England Patriots over three seasons. He appeared in seven games with the Dolphins this season before getting waived.
Rookie DeForest Buckner again led the defensive line in playing time with 57 snaps.
Wide receiver Rod Streater saw his most significant playing time of the season. Streater played 44 snaps after Quinton Patton left the game with a concussion. Streater caught four passes for 46 yards.
