Source: Vikings' Paton Set to Interview for 49ers GM Job

The 49ers are scheduled to interview Minnesota assistant general manager George Paton for their general manage position, a source told CSNBayArea.com.

Paton has worked 10 seasons with the Vikings under general manager Rick Spielman. Paton's duties including work in the pro scouting department and evaluating college prospects for the NFL draft.

Paton (pronounced Payton) has been considered a hot GM prospect for several years. He has reportedly turned down interview requests from the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears in the recent years.

He spent six seasons (2001-06) with the Miami Dolphins as director of pro personnel before joining the Vikings. Paton began his NFL career with the Chicago Bears, rising to assistant director of pro personnel in 2000.

Paton, Indianapolis vice preside of football operations Jimmy Raye III, Green Bay director of football operations Eliot Wolf and Green Bay director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst are confirmed to have interviews scheduled with 49ers CEO Jed York and Paraag Marathe, the team's chief strategy officer. ESPN analyst Louis Riddick is also expected to interview early next week.

On the head-coaching search, the 49ers will interview Anthony Lynn, Kyle Shanahan and Josh McDaniels before Sunday. Sean McVay and Vance Joseph will interview next week, depending on times when they can work it out on their schedules, according to sources.
