Ward Sustains Concussion, 49ers Fear Serious Injury for Reid

SANTA CLARA – Cornerback Jimmie Ward was diagnosed with a concussion late in the 49ers’ 30-17 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, the team announced.

Also, 49ers free safety Eric Reid sustained an injury that could impact his availability for the remainder of the season. Reid sustained an injury to his right arm late in the game. He was seen leaving Levi's Stadium with his arm in a sling. The fear is Reid sustained a torn biceps, which would require season-ending surgery. He is scheduled for an MRI on Monday.

Ward was injured while tackling Patriots receiver Julian Edelman on a 7-yard gain. He returned to the locker room, where he underwent further evaluation that determined he sustained a concussion.

Ward must now pass the NFL’s concussion protocol in order to return to practice and be eligible to play in the 49ers’ game next Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
