A's Lineup: Cotton to Make Big League Debut Vs Angels

Cotton began the season at Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and went 8-5 with a 4.90 ERA in 22 games, including 16 starts.  He was traded to the A's on Aug. 1 with Frankie Montas and Grant Holmes for Rich Hill and Josh Reddick and was assigned to Triple-A Nashville where he went 3-1 with a 2.82 ERA in six starts. 

The 24-year-old right-hander combined with both clubs for an 11-6 record and a 4.31 ERA in 28 games, 22 starts.  He led the Pacific Coast League, ranked second in Triple-A and tied for 12th in all of minor league baseball with a career-high 155 strikeouts. 

Cotton becomes the 12th rookie to pitch for the A's this year, which ties the Oakland record for most rookie pitchers in a season (2009, 2012, 2015).  He will be the seventh Athletic to make his first Major League start this year.
