A's Minor Leaguer Not Happy With Tebow Getting Signed

Despite not playing organized baseball in 12 years, Tim Tebow signed a minor league deal with the Mets on Thursday.

And while former A's slugger Jose Canseco wants to help Tebow, one Oakland minor leaguer isn't thrilled with Tebow getting signed.

"The fact Tebow got 100,000 to sign let alone him even getting signed is a joke," Double-A Midland pitcher Corey Walter wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

Tebow held a showcase for MLB teams on August 30 in Los Angeles. After the Mets made the deal with Tebow official on Thursday, they announced the former Heisman Trophy winner would report to the Instructional League in Port St. Lucie, Florida on Sept. 18.

Walter, a 28th round pick by the A's in 2014, spent the entire 2016 season at Double-A Midland in the Texas League. The 24-year-old right-handed pitcher made 29 appearances, including 16 starts, and posted a 2.15 ERA in 100.1 innings pitched.

Canseco, back in Oakland on Sept. 4 for his bobblehead night, spoke with reporters before the game and was asked about Tebow's attempt to play baseball.

"I want to work with him," Canseco told reporters. "I want to teach him the art of power hitting, the psychology behind the game, because I have a lot of experience with that. I kind of put an open challenge to him, ‘If I beat you in a home run derby, you have to let me train you.' So I'm hoping he calls me."

Among the teams to watch Tebow work out on the USC campus were the Giants, GM Bobby Evans confirmed while on SportsTalk Live on August 30.
