A's Place Davis on DL, DFA Alcantara; Recent Acquisition Called Up

OAKLAND – The Oakland A's placed Rajai Davis on the 10-day disabled list today retroactive to April 22 with a strained left hamstring, the club announced Tuesday. The A's also recalled right-handed pitcher César Valdez and outfielder Ryan LaMarre from Triple-A Nashville and designated right-handed pitcher Raul Alcantara for assignment.

Davis was batting .214 with a home run, seven RBI and one stolen base in 15 games before the injury. He had back-to-back multiple hit games over his final two games (4-for-10, .400) after hitting .167 over his previous 11 contests.  This is Davis' fourth career stint on the disabled list, but his first since 2013.

Valdez joins the A's for the second time this year.  He began the season at Nashville and was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and .211 opponents batting average in two starts when he was selected by Oakland on April 20.  The 32-year-old right-hander made his first Major League appearance since 2010 that day, a start and no decision in the A's 9-6 win over Seattle (4.0 ip, 5 h, 3 r, 3 er, 2 bb, 4 so).  Valdez was optioned back to Nashville the next day but did not pitch for the Sounds.

LaMarre was acquired from the Angels on Sunday for a player to be named later or cash considerations.  He was assigned to Nashville and went 1-for-5 yesterday at Colorado Springs.  The 28-year-old right-handed hitter began the year at Triple-A Salt Lake and hit .268 with seven RBI, six walks and four stolen bases in 10 games before he was designated for assignment by Los Angeles a week ago today.  LaMarre is batting .261 in 11 games overall at Triple-A this year.  He made his Major League debut with the Reds in 2015 and also appeared in five games with the Red Sox last year and is 2-for-30 (.067) in 26 games over his two seasons in the majors.

Alcantara pitched in three games for Oakland and was 0-1 with a 16.71 ERA.  He allowed a .323 opponents batting average and surrendered three home runs 7.0 innings while walking five.  Alcantara began the season as the A's fifth starter, but his last two outings were in relief and his appearance on Sunday was his first game in nine days.
