Triggs Leaves Start Vs Red Sox After One Inning With Injury

OAKLAND - Even the replacements for the A's injured starting pitchers are getting injured.

Andrew Triggs left Friday's start against Boston after just one inning with back tightness. The right-hander allowed a run on David Ortiz's RBI single in the first and then was replaced by Zach Neal to begin the second.

Triggs, a reliever for most of this season, has been effective since being plugged into the rotation as injuries have continued to rob the A's of their starters over the second half. In total, the A's have had 12 different starting pitchers make at least five starts this season, just the second time that has happened in franchise history.

The Red Sox held a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
