Casilla Weeps After Game 4 Loss to Cubs, Feels Giants Forgot About Him

The Giants entered the ninth inning on Tuesday night with a 5-2 lead. They lost 6-5.

Bruce Bochy used five relief pitchers in the final frame. Santiago Casilla was not one of them, and the reliever was emotional after the season-ending defeat.

"I’m a pitcher. I’m part of the bullpen," he explained to Carl Steward of the Bay Area News Group. "I know I have had some bad moments in September and during the season, but I have good numbers in the playoffs and I know I can pitch in that situation. I know I can pitch in the big leagues.”

Casilla was the Giants' closer for much of the 2016 campaign. He racked up 31 saves but he also tied for the league lead with nine blown saves.

“I had a little struggle. But everybody (in the bullpen) has had their bad moments," Casilla added. "I think they forgot all the great moments I’ve had here. I’ve pitched a lot in the playoffs and done my job. I know I am a good pitcher.”

Casilla was a part of the three World Series title runs in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

Over 24 postseason appearances, he went 1-0 with a 0.95 ERA and four saves. Casilla allowed just two earned runs, 13 hits and five walks over 19 innings while striking out 20.

The 36-year old is set to become an unrestricted free agent, and as CSNBayArea.com's Alex Pavlovic wrote: "Given the way he was booed late in the regular season, and the fact that Bochy didn't even hint at using him tonight, it seems clear that Casilla's time here is done."

“I’m just going to wait and see what happens," Casilla said.
