Giants Have Strong Belief They Will Get a Deal Done With Mark Melancon

The Giants are in the market for a closer and they may be nearing a deal with one of the best in the game.

A couple of times over the weekend, the Orange and Black felt they were very close to agreeing to terms on a contract with Mark Melancon, according to CSNBayArea.com's Alex Pavlovic.

There is strong belief within the organization that the two sides strike a deal.

As Pavlovic wrote weeks ago:

"Melancon is a 31-year-old righty the Giants nearly grabbed from the Pirates at the trade deadline. Remember that three-year ERA list above? Melancon, Kontos’ former Yankees teammate, is near the top of every category during that timeframe. He has a 1.93 ERA in 225

"appearances over the past three seasons, saving an MLB-leading 131 games in 141 chances."

In 2016, Melancon went 2-2 with a 1.64 ERA. He racked up 47 saves and registered a 0.897 WHIP.

He will turn 32 years old on March 28.
