A year after posting a 5.23 ERA in 13 starts for Double-A Richmond, Giants top pitching prospect Tyler Beede bounced back in a big way this season.
The former first round pick gave up one earned run in six innings in his final regular-season start Sunday and finished the season with an Eastern League-best 2.81 ERA.
Beede entered the day trailing Rockies prospect German Marquez 2.87 to 2.85, but Marquez was promoted to Triple-A after his start on August 4.
In 147.1 innings over 24 starts this season - all with Double-A Richmond - Beede struck out 135 batters and posted a 1.28 WHIP.
Taken with the No. 14 overall pick in 2014, Beede is now the Giants' No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America. Phil Bickford held that distinction until he was traded to Milwaukee in the Will Smith deal on August 1.
On August 30, Giants GM Bobby Evans appeared on SportsTalk Live with Jim Kozimor and was asked about Beede's performance following 11-strikeout shutout the previous night.
