Report: Member of Giants Staff a ‘strong Candidate' to Become Tigers Manager

A member of Bruce Bochy's coaching staff could be on his way out.

According to a report, Phil Nevin, San Francisco's third base coach, is a "strong candidate" for the Detroit Tigers managerial job.

The Tigers announced they would not ask Brad Ausmus to return after four seasons with the club.

Detroit general manager Al Avila knows Nevin after the former major leaguer managed three-plus years in the Tigers' minor league system.

This was Nevin's first season as the Giants' third base coach.

Nevin also has managerial experience at the AAA level with the Reno Aces -- the Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate.

According to the same report, several names have been linked to the Tigers job.

As of Friday, the Tigers have a 63-96 record -- their worst record since Ausmus took over.
