Casspi's Injury Upgraded, Eyeing Post All-Star Game Return

SACRAMENTO -- The Sacramento Kings' injury report is ugly. Rudy gay is done for the season and Garrett Temple is gone until after the All-Star break with a hamstring tear. Ty Lawson is questionable with a left adductor strain, but the news isn't so pleasant for forward Omri Casspi.

Casspi, 28, has missed the last 15 games with a strained plantaris tendon in his right calf. That injury has now been upgraded to a right plantaris tendon tear and a right medial gastrocnemius strain (calf strain).

CSN California spoke to Casspi following the Kings 105-99 win over the New Orleans Pelicans and the eight-year NBA veteran said that he was improving but would sit until after the All-Star break.

That conversation was in stark contrast to what Casspi told reporters on Tuesday's following practice.

"It feels better and hopefully tomorrow it won't be as sore," Casspi said.  "Hopefully I'm aiming for the Friday night's game."

According to Casspi, the tendon in question is hiding underneath his calf muscle, making treatment on the injury difficult. He injured his right leg during a practice session on Jan. 14 and immediately underwent an MRI.

Casspi has played in just 22 of the Kings' 55 games this season, posting just 5.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in 18 minutes a night. But during the 2015-16 campaign, Casspi was a major cog in the Kings' rotation, averaging 11.8 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 40.9 percent from long range.

According to the team, Casspi is progressing well from the injury and they expect him back shortly after the All-Star break.
