SACRAMENTO -- It’s never a good sign when you see an NBA player sipping on a bottle of pedialyte in the locker room an hour before gametime. Omri Casspi missed his third straight game Tuesday night when the Kings faced off with the Portland Trail Blazers and he might not be ready to play for another few days.
According to Casspi, he underwent blood tests on Monday and has a virus. He’s hardly been able to step foot on a court since becoming ill before Friday’s game on the road in Memphis.
The 28-year-old wing has played in 16 games this season, including two starts. He’s averaging 7.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per contest and the Kings desperately miss his energy.
Rudy Gay missed his fourth straight game, but he worked out before the contest and told CSN California that he hopes to play Wednesday against the Jazz.
The 10-year NBA vet is struggling with a hip flexor strain. He’s the Kings’ second leading scorer, posting 18.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
