Carr's Record Day Earns AFC Offensive Player of the Week Honors

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr threw for a franchise record 513 yards in Sunday's overtime victory at Tampa Bay, a total accompanied by four touchdowns and zero interceptions. He was efficient, steely against adversity and brought his team back from a late deficit.

It was quite a day for the 25-year old, one that thrust him into the NFL's MVP conversation. That award takes an entire season to decision. Shredding the Buccaneers earned a more timely honor. He was named AFC offensive player of the week on Wednesday morning, and award due after his seventh fourth quarter/overtime comeback since 2015, tied for the most in the NFL over that span.

Carr became just the third quarterback to throw at least 400 yards, four TDs and no picks in NFL history, joining Ben Roethlisberger and Y.A. Tittle in that exclusive club. His day was highlighted by a game-tying touchdown pass to Mychal Rivera late in the fourth quarter and a game winner to Seth Roberts late in overtime.

The quarterback doesn't care much for stats, but the single-game franchise record meant something special.

“I’m not going to lie to you. I was so overcome with emotion when somebody told be (about the franchise record) I almost started crying,” Carr said on Sunday. “Not in a weird way, it’s just that stuff is something you dream about as a kid.”
