Murray Back at Raiders Practice, Status Vs Jags Uncertain

ALAMEDA – Latavius Murray spent two full weeks sidelined with turf toe. It was an excruciating period for a running back who prides himself on availability, especially after playing all 16 games in his first year as a starter.

He witnessed a Raiders win and a loss during a down period he hopes will end Sunday at Jacksonville.

“It’s tough for me not being able to play,” Murray said. “We got a win and then we lost. I miss being out there, not being a part of both games.”

His quest to play started Wednesday, when he participated in his first practice since injury struck in Week 4 at Baltimore.

Rest and rehab provided respite, and Murray was deemed healthy enough for football activity.

“I’m feeling good,” Murray said before Wednesday’s practice. “We’re just excited to be able to go out there today and get my feet wet again.

“I have no doubt that it should be a good day.”

Updates on Murray’s ability to run and cut and rebound from practice activity will come later this week.

Murray won’t do anything to risk a recurrence of an injury that can linger if not respected during the rehab process.

“It’s my first time (dealing with turf toe), but it’s just one of those things,” Murray said. “We definitely don’t want it to linger on, or get worse. I’m making sure that I’m communicating with the trainers and being honest about everything. That’s what is most important.”

There’s a mix of hope and confidence Murray will be able to go against Jacksonville. It’s a good spot for a return, considering he has family in the area and went to Central Florida, located 140 miles south.

“I have a lot of family in Florida and I went to school not too far down the road,” Murray said, “so it’s going to be cool to play in front of some of my family. It’ll be fun.”
