Patrick Marleau Takes Out Full-page Newspaper Ad to Thank San Jose

For the first time since he was a teenager, Patrick Marleau, who turns 38 on Sept. 15, will suit up for a different team in the NHL other than the Sharks.

Marleau signed a three-year, $18.75 million deal on July 2 with the Maple Leafs.

On Sunday, Marleau took out a full-page ad in the San Jose Mercury News to thank Sharks fans.

Marleau ended the ad by writing, "Without every single one of you, I would not have had the career I have had so far, and I know that. You all have my deepest respect and admiration."

The No. 2 overall pick in the 1997 NHL Draft departs San Jose as the Sharks' career leader in games played (1,493), goals (508) and points (1,082), among several other records as well.
