Sharks Sign Defenseman Schlemko

The Sharks signed 29-year-old defenseman David Schlemko to a four-year contract on Friday morning.

The deal is reportedly worth an average of $2.1 million annually, according to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.

A left handed shot, Schlemko has 15 goals and 54 assists for 69 points and a plus-three rating in 298 career games with Arizona, Dallas, Calgary and New Jersey.

"David is a solid puck-moving defenseman with good speed who can play the game at both ends," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement. "He is coming off of a very productive season in New Jersey and we think he will fit well with our group."

In 67 games last season with the Devils, the six-foot, 190-pound Edmonton native had 19 points (6g, 13a) and a minus-22 rating.

Schlemko presumably slots onto the Sharks' third defense pair with Brenden Dillon in the spot previously occupied by Roman Polak, who is an unrestricted free agent.
