The first round of the NHL Entry Draft came and went on Friday night, and the Sharks' table on the floor in Buffalo was a dormant one.
San Jose, which traded its first-round pick to Boston last summer in exchange for goalie Martin Jones, has five selections when the draft resumes for rounds two through seven on Saturday morning (7 a.m. PT). Their first pick is 60th overall, late in the second round.
There were some notable moves around the NHL throughout the evening:
*As expected, Toronto selected center Auston Matthews with the first overall pick.
*Rounding out the top five, Winnipeg chose right wing Patrick Laine; Columbus selected left wing Pierre-Luc Dubois; Edmonton chose right wing Jesse Puljujarvi; and Vancouver went with defenseman Olli Juolevi.
*A record 12 American-born players went in the first round, including Matthews and left wing Matthew Tkachuk to Calgary (sixth overall).

*Chicago traded forward Andrew Shaw to Montreal in exchange for a pair of second-round picks this year.
*Calgary acquired goalie Brian Elliott from St. Louis for a second-round pick in this year's draft, and a conditional third-round pick in 2018.
*Detroit unloaded Pavel Datsyuk's contract to Arizona, fueling speculation the Red Wings will make a run at potential free agent Steven Stamkos.
Along with the 60th overall selection, the Sharks have one pick in each of rounds four through seven (111, 150, 180 and 210 overall).
