Apple could be going where no major computer maker has gone before. The Cupertino-based company has been awarded a patent for charging devices, such as laptops and mobile phones, via solar power.
The patent also mentions tablet computers, which means Apple's popular iPad and its iPhone could come with solar power sometime in the future.
The move would go a long way to silence critics who say Apple has failed on its commitment to being a green company.
While the company touts its environmental record, its practices have long come under fire. Apple has responded to those charges and even changed some of its habits.
Apple reportedly filed for the solar patent in 2009 but the company has reportedly been working on the technology for several years.
