Elon Musk's SpaceX May Launch GPS Satellites for U.S. Air Force

Correction: A previous version of this article erroneously said SpaceX is negotiating to design GPS satellites for the Air Force. We regret the error.

Elon Musk's company SpaceX is negotiating to launch GPS satellites for the U.S. Air Force in 2018.

According to Ars Technica, SpaceX has become the final company in talks with the military branch to provide security-enhancing technology.

Another company expected to bid for the job, United Launch Alliance (a collaboration between Boeing and Lockheed Martin), did not do so because the Russian-made engines that power the satellites have been banned, reported Space News.

Meanwhile, reports have suggested that Musk's Hyperloop project might break ground earlier than the expected date of May 2016.
