Google Maps Shows Interest in Food Photos, or ‘Foodographs'

Select Android users who are part of Google Maps' Local Guides program are now encouraged to upload photos of food — or, in company parlance, "foodographs."

TechCrunch noted that this newly added feature differs from the universal ability to upload photos to Google Maps in that it could be a conscious effort to recruit higher quality results from the current users, who have established an archive of at least 50 reviews as part of Local Guides.

It also pairs well with Google's recent restaurant delivery service partnerships to enable ordering food right from the Google homepage.

A company spokesperson told the publication that there are no announcements to make at this time as to whether this will be a feature that is eventually available to all users.
