A Silicon Valley community giant has joined forces with a tech giant. The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley announced Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has joined its Board of Directors.
โThis is a breakthrough for our foundation, " said Ron Gonzales, CEO of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley. โI think itโs symbolic that the high-tech community is better understanding of the Hispanic community, and we welcome Reed Hastings to our Board and look forward to working with him.โ
โThe HFSV plays a critical role in helping and inspiring Hispanic families and their children to achieve personal greatness,โ Hastings said in a statement. โIโm passionate about great education and leadership training and excited to be working with HFSV, the board and the community to help Hispanic kids in the Valley reach their full potential.โ
โReed Hastings on the Board brings a level of prestige," said tech analyst Tim Bajarin, of Creative Strategies
Bajarin thinks Hastings will be vocal in his new role.
โHis leadership role could be very important. He has very strong opinions on education, and he would like to influence it," Bajarin said.
โThe high-tech community has acknowledged the fact that they have difficulties recruiting Hispanics to their workforce,โ Gonzales said. โWe want to be a part of that solution, and we believe Reed Hastings will help us do that.โ
