Skype Acquires Qik

Skype chief executive, Tony Bates annouced today at CES, that the company has purchased real-time video startup Qik for an undisclosed price.

According to Venture Beat, Bates said the Qik service is a complement to Skye's video calling service and Skype is moving in the direction of both intimate and everyday communications experiences.

Bates did not comment on the price of the acquisition, but rumors circulating speculate it was a $100 million deal.

Skype generates about 520 million minutes a day in call time and 190 billion minutes a year.
